My CALL activities

My doctoral thesis was on the use of computer-mediated communication in developing ESL teachers¡¦ professional knowledge. I have a Certificate in Online Education and Training from the University of London Institute of Education. I was the founding chairman of the Test Development Committee for the Basic Competence Assessment (BCA)(English), a Web-based assessment platform for schools in Hong Kong. For the professional development of primary ESL teachers, I have developed PELT (Primary English Language Teaching), an online lesson observation platform. I have piloted a range of CALL activities at schools, including radio drama projects at 4 secondary schools, a wiki writing project at a secondary school, and a digitalstorytelling project at a primary school. Currently, I am promoting digital storytelling as an activity for improving learners¡¦ writing and speaking.

I am  a reader for Librivox, an international voluntary audiobooks projects. I have a podcast called Teachers¡¦ Stories, which is a series of meaningful true stories told by me or by the teachers themselves.

I frequently use wikis to record and organize my search for ideas and resources in areas which I am interested in, such as phonics, wikis, podcasting, and digital storytelling.
