A Study Of Performance Evaluation System For The American Professors

Abstract
As this study analyze the performance evaluation system for the American professors, it would hike to provide the university, which is to adapt the system, with a useful reference.

This study is stated in 4 parts; (1) Brief introduction of the concept for performance evaluation system. (2) Description of the contents of performance evaluation system . (3) Execution status of the performance evaluation system like teaching, research, publication, and service evaluation. (4) Problems in execution of the performance evaluation system.

According to this study, if suggests a few necessary preconditions, as follows;

  1. Need a consensus for the common recognition and necessity of the preformance evaluation system.
  2. Need strong will and positive support from university authority.
  3. Undergo gradual and step-by-step process in adapting of the performance evaluation system.
  4. Consider flexibility and reality in setting up the criteria, such as lecture, study, and service criterion the evaluation scope.
  5. Need common recognition and consensus between professors and university authority for what kind of achievements shall be evaluated.
  6. Consider the probable fliction among professors caused by competitive atmosphere of performance evaluation system under the oriental society which needs harmony and homogeneity.
