 I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the Faculty of Education on this auspicious occasion of
 its 50th anniversary. The time-honoured Chinese adage “the benefits of growing trees last ten years, while
 those of educating people, hundreds of years” reminds us of the importance of education. Since its foundation
 in 1965, the Faculty of Education has been a key centre for professional training and educational research
 in Hong Kong. Today, the Faculty offers a range of academic and professional programmes, and many of its
 alumni have taken up leadership positions in the education sectors in Hong Kong and Greater China.
