I am grateful to have received financial support through scholarships nominated by the Faculty of Education. In year two I was fortunately selected for a competitively sought scholarship offered by The Au Bak Ling Charity Trust, which awards specifically teachers-in-training. I have also received scholarships awarded based on academic achievements, financial needs, and participation in activities and services, like Mrs. Julia Leung Memorial Scholarship, Kai Chong Tong Scholarship, and Hong Kong Asia Lions Club Scholarship. The scholarships have supported me in my UK immersion experience, which truly enriched my degree; they also enable me to consider the possibility of further study after graduation.

Having been selected as one of the recipients of Au Bak Ling Charity Trust Scholarship in my second year of undergraduate studies, I would like to express my gratitude for the recommendation of the ELED programme as well as the generosity and support of Au Bak Ling Charity Trust. The entirety of the scholarship sponsored my one-week school experience in Beijing, where English is taught as a foreign language as in Hong Kong. The experience was frightfully fruitful, meaningful, and valuable in that not only did I better understand the classroom dynamics in Beijing, I also acquired more comprehensive information on the English language curriculum as well as language policies in the Mainland. The school experience in Beijing thereby expanded my world vision and is construed as substantially profitable to my future teaching career.

I am truly thankful to have received several awards and scholarships during my undergraduate studies. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my teachers who inspired and nurtured me along the way. Without their guidance, I would not have flourished. Honestly, never have I expected any awards; I simply kept reminding myself that I should always do my best with a humble attitude, no matter how trivial something seems to be. I profoundly believe that results are not the most important, but the effort you put. It was encouraging and delightful to have received prizes that recognized my effort; on top of that, it also reinforced my teaching philosophy that students’ effort should never be neglected.

I am thankful for the generous support of the HKSAR Government Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers and Au Bak Ling Charity Trust Scholarship, both competitively awarded to aspiring teachers with clear career goals. The Scholarships mean that I worried less about my finance, and I even invested in my career by participating in more activities. I also met other scholarship recipients, and we exchanged our views on educating for the future. The Scholarships have enriched my university life, invested in my future, and reinforced my sense of purpose in language and education. Scholarships and awards available for ELED students represent the rich opportunities and support for those who are passionate for teaching.
