I am glad to have participated in a UBC-CUHK 3-week practicum exchange program, which provided me with the opportunity to explore a new education system and culture. During my visit to a Canadian secondary school, I had the chance to observe different classes and was highly impressed by the innovative teaching methods used. The classroom environment was designed based on the idea of “thinking classroom” to promote self-learning and peer learning, with teachers acting as facilitators. Physical tools, such as Cubes and watermelon, were effectively used to teach 3D drawing and the volume of revolution, enabling students to visualize and understand the concepts. Besides, a wide range of elective courses, including drama, food, mental work, and orchestra, were offered which encouraged students to explore their interests and passions. Apart from my educational experiences, I also explored Canada’s natural beauty by visiting places such as Whistler, Victoria, and Banff. The stunning scenery and adorable animals were breathtaking. Overall, the experience was thought-provoking and eye-opening!
