Annual Seminar – AI Competence for all Teachers

On June 16, 2023, an Annual Seminar was organized with the aim of promoting teacher professional development and fostering collaborations between schools and the Faculty. The seminar commenced with welcoming remarks delivered by Professor Raymond Sum, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), expressing gratitude to the Partnership schools and School Mentors for providing valuable Teaching Practicum opportunities to our student teachers. Following this, the 2022-23 Exemplary School Mentor Award was presented. The award is a symbol of excellence and a token of our appreciation for the invaluable guidance and support provided by the outstanding mentor this year.

The seminar also featured a session where Mr. Shum Chin Kei, Vice Principal of De La Salle Secondary School, N.T., the recipient of the 2022-23 Exemplary School Mentor Award, and Miss Cheung Hoi Yan, his mentee in 2019, shared on the topic of “Professional Growth of Young Teachers.” This session aimed to provide valuable insights of how TP brings benefits and fosters continuous development between both mentors and mentees.

The event was eventually highlighted by the informative seminar entitled “AI Competence for all Teachers” spoken by Professor Thomas Chiu. Professor Chiu’s presentation delved into the workings of AI technologies and their impact on school education, transforming pedagogy, assessment methods, and the expected learning outcomes of students. The attendees proactively engaged in discussions to exchange ideas on the topic and explore the transformative potential of AI in education.
