Journal of Basic Education was previously known as "Journal of Primary Education" (1994-1996) and "Primary Education" (1991-1993).

The Journal of Basic Education aims to promote and improve the study of basic education in Hong Kong and other Chinese communities. It seeks contributions related to academic theory and research, exploration of educational issues, as well as exchange of practical experiences of educators from pre-primary to lower secondary level education. The journal is a half-yearly publication, which welcomes papers in Chinese or English.
